Seed Bead September 2023 - Week 2 - Odd Count Peyote

Author: Lynda Taylor   Date Posted:8 September 2023

Join Lynda this week as we have fun making a charm using odd count peyote & Cymbal Bead Ending.

This charm was designed for Lynda's Niece Zoe to use as part of her Zoe Zoo Keeper costume for book week.

There are two versions of the pattern available - beading from the top or beading from the bottom. The top has the cymbal bead being stitched in as part of row 3, the bottom option has it being stitched in the last row.

The video does not show the start or end but focuses on the turns that are part of creating an odd-count peyote design.

There are a few approaches to odd count - this is the one Lynda prefers and demonstrated

With this approach as you complete the row, you exit from the bead at the start of the previous row (1), pick up the next bead (8) and then pass through bead 1 and 8 again before you continue to stitch. Lynda tends to turn at beads 7 & 3 to avoid adding additional thread into the beads.
