Tips and Tricks

This chart covers the standard costume jewellery lengths for necklaces. It is a good idea to use a tape measure or piece of cord draped around your neck to check the length you need on your own body to correspond to each of these points. If you are testing a design on your body in front of the mirror, be sure to allow a gap equivalent to the length of the findings you are using to finish the piece.

This chart covers the standard costume jewellery lengths for bracelets. It is a good idea to use a tape measure or piece of cord wrapped around your wrist to determine the length you need. To allow for the depth of the beads, place two fingers under the tape when measuring. When calculating the final length of the piece make sure you factor in the length of the findings being used in the design.

For instance - for a 18cm long bracelet, using wire guards (1cm) jump rings (if using 6mm - 1.2cm) and a 10mm magnetic clasp (1cm) (A magnetic clasp of this size is 1.6mm long - but as the jump ring connects through the links, we do not count the additional .6cm of the links) you will need 14.8cm (18-1-1.2-1.6) of beads on the piece.
