St Christopher

Patron of Travellers and Motorists

Legend has it that St Christopher was very tall and of significant physical statue. He wanted to serve the greatest king he could. A hermit taught him all about Christ. At the suggestion of the hermit, as a way to please Christ, he assisted travellers across a particularly dangerous river that had taken the lives of many people attempting to cross it.

One day he carried a child across the river. As the approached the middle of the river the water rose and the child became heavier and heavier. With great effort St Christopher managed to safely carry the child to the other side of the river.

St Christopher asked the child what made him so heavy and he explained that he was Christ and carried the weight of the world on his shoulders.
