St Ann

Patron of Mothers, Women in Labour and Minors

St Ann (also known as Anne or Anna) -  the name Ann derives from the Hebrew, “Hannah” meaning grace.

St Ann is the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus. Born in Bethlehem she was married to Joachim and was childless for many years. On day she was watching new born birds in their nest and prayed for a child. An angel appeared and told her she would soon have a baby girl that she was to name Mary.

Mary spent much of her life at the temple of Jerusalem where she was dedicated as a child. At fourteen she was betrothed to Joseph of Nazareth.
